Rusyn Roots: Looking for the Duska Family in the Trans-Carpathian Census
As the Duska/Demko line ascending from my paternal grandfather Stefan (Steve) Duska (1929-2018) is from Senne and Inacovce (Solymos), Slovakia, there is a strong reason to believe that Rusyn ancestry may be present in my line. This is linked to both the geographical locations of the villages of origin of Senne and Inacovce as well as the etymology of the surname Duska and the etymology of the surname Duska
As I begin this one-name study, with plenty of unfiled Matrika records ready to process, I have made the foolish decision to exhaustively consult the Hungarian National Archives’ holdings pertaining to the Trans-Carpathian Census of
I should note that this decision is not guided by genealogical best practices or optimal methodology in qualitative research. Rather, it is driven by nothing but curiosity, and a desire to stare at archival scans while my puppy Wilco recovers from her spay.
